چکیده

Coral growth anomalies (GAs) are tumor-like protrusions that detrimental to coral health, affecting both the skeleton and soft tissues. These lesions increasingly found throughout tropics commonly associated with high human population density, yet little is known about molecular pathology of disease. Here, we investigate metabolic impacts GAs through 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) metabolomics in Porites compressa tissues from a site disease prevalence (Coconut Island, Hawaii). We putatively identified 18 metabolites (8.1% total annotated features) complementary 1H–13C heteronuclear single quantum correlation NMR data increase confidence pathway analyses may bolster future metabolite annotation efforts. Extract yield was elevated GA unaffected (normal tissue diseased colony) compared reference GA-free samples, potentially indicating activity GA-impacted colonies. Relatively variation metabolomic profiles among samples same treatment (i.e., inter-colony variation) confounded interpretation, however, paired 73 features differed between these respective metabolome types. were largely as unknowns, but 1-methylnicotinamide trigonelline be while betaine, glycine, histamine lower samples. Pathway indicate decreased choline oxidation making this interest for targeted studies. Collectively, our results provide unique insights into pathophysiology by showing alter absolute relative metabolism affected colonies identifying (metabolites unknowns) pathways going forward.

Serum-based metabolic alterations in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma unveiled by non-targeted 1H-NMR metabolomics approach

Objective(s): As the most prevalent endocrine system malignancy, papillary thyroid carcinoma had a very fast rising incidence in recent years for unknown reasons besides the fact that the current methods in thyroid cancer diagnosis still hold some limitations. Therefore, the aim of this study was to improve the potential molecular markers for diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules to...

Metabolic profiling of maize mutants deficient for two glutamine synthetase isoenzymes using 1H-NMR-based metabolomics.

INTRODUCTION Maize mutants deficient for the expression of two genes encoding cytosolic glutamine synthetase (GS) isoenzymes GS1.3 and GS1.4 displayed reduced kernel number and kernel size, respectively, the effect of the mutation being cumulative in the double mutant. However, at maturity, shoot biomass production was not modified in all the mutants, indicating that the reaction catalysed by t...

Metabolic effects of basic fibroblast growth factor in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats: A 1H NMR-based metabolomics investigation

The fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) family shows a great potential in the treatment of diabetes, but little attention is paid to basic FGF (bFGF). In this study, to explore the metabolic effects of bFGF on diabetes, metabolic changes in serum and feces were analyzed in the normal rats, the streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats and the bFGF-treated diabetic rats using a 1H nuclear magnetic r...

Quantitative Metabolomics by 1H-NMR and LC-MS/MS Confirms Altered Metabolic Pathways in Diabetes

Insulin is as a major postprandial hormone with profound effects on carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. In the absence of exogenous insulin, patients with type 1 diabetes exhibit a variety of metabolic abnormalities including hyperglycemia, glycosurea, accelerated ketogenesis, and muscle wasting due to increased proteolysis. We analyzed plasma from type 1 diabetic (T1D) humans during ins...

1H-NMR, 1H-NMR T2-edited, and 2D-NMR in bipolar disorder metabolic profiling

BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to identify molecular alterations in the human blood serum related to bipolar disorder, using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and chemometrics. METHODS Metabolomic profiling, employing 1H-NMR, 1H-NMR T2-edited, and 2D-NMR spectroscopy and chemometrics of human blood serum samples from patients with bipolar disorder (n = 26) compared wit...
